Days 32-34 August 13-16 Custer's Last Stand

After a journey of about 280 miles, we camped at Grandview Camp RV Park.  We are here to see the site of the Battle of Little Big Horn, better known as Custer's Last Stand, and the National Cemetery on the battlefield grounds.  Here General Custer's 7th Cavalry numbering about 700 men took on about 7000 warriors from several Indian tribes with a devastating results.  White tombstones fill the National Cemetery honoring those from the 1876 battle through the Viet Nam War.  White tombstones also dot the landscape on the 4 1/2 mile drive around the battlefield marking the places where Custer's men fell.  Red tombstones here and there mark the places where the Indians fell.  Interesting markers along the way tell the story.  A monument to the cavalry and a monument to the Indians who were trying to preserve their way of life round out this interesting piece of history.  Although the Visitor's center was closed due to Covid 19, there was much to see and learn here.
