Early morning of Day 3 found us all ready to head up the 14,115 feet of Pike's Peak. Our Gray Line Tour director, Rennie, and his three windowless red buses arrived right on time at 7:30. Our temperatures were taken and all were well within the Covid limits so off we went. It seems that a good time was had by all with our well-informed bus/driver/narrators. The drive up was awesome and the drive back down was even more so. We had the opportunity to have our pictures taken with a wood carving of Big Foot. The weather at the top was windy and much cooler than we are used to at this time of year so most of us were glad we had worn our fashionable yellow jackets. Everyone seemed to enjoy the trip.

Mom and I loved this. We were amazed by the cog railway we could see looking down, and the lack of ability to actually see how far up we were. It was so windy and cold (in September) that we 'ran' back to the car. it took awhile to catch our breath, as we'd forgotten the altitude. what was exciting was the ride down. on the way up, mom was draped over the console away from the window. we watched birds drop off the edge to spread their wings. going down we were told to use low gear rather than brakes. compliant, we followed an suv who rode the brakes. halfway down we were stopped to have the temperature of our brakes measured. mr suv was pulled over and we were allowed to continue
