Day 15. July 27 Covered Wagon Ride and Dinner

We have all come to a great understanding of some of the hardships the pioneers endured as they crossed the Grand Frontier.  Now we have the bumps and bruises and sore feet and legs that they may have suffered as well.  Historic Trails West led us to the 3 covered wagons that would take us across the hills and valleys to our chuck wagon dinner.  The word "bumpy" hardly describes what it was like to ride in those wagons as our drivers explained how we were replicating a tiny portion of their journey.  Now we understand why most of them walked beside the wagons instead of riding in them. Our women were all given "bonnets" to wear to help us feel more like the pioneer women who traveled this way
Away we go.

Wagons ho!
Getting in character.

Smile for the camera.

Our dinner.
What a dinner we had!  Steak, green beans, potatoes, and bread followed by a delicious peach cobbler.  We all ate very well and explored the teepees and the banks of the Platte River.
Our dining tent.

Dining in style.

The Platte River.

As the sun set on our return trip, we again marveled at the difficulties those many pioneers faced as they helped our country grow from sea to shining sea.  Many of our adventurers also walked on the return trip to help the horses/mules get over the steep ridges.

Walking beside the wagons.

This is us!
