Day 39 and 40 August 20 and 21 Shuffle off to Buffalo WY

Buffalo was intended to be just a stop over to keep from having such a long drive to Devil's Tower.  However we had misjudged this quaint little town as it had much to offer.  We stayed at the very nice Deer Park Campground which lived up to its name by being visited by deer each evening.

There are many pretty murals on the sides of buildings, and you can feed the fish in Clear Creek which runs through the middle of downtown.  An ice cream shop boasted some strange flavors.

The crown jewel of this little town is the Occidental Hotel and saloon which has been fully restored to its late 19th century glory.  Owen Wister, considered the "father" of western fiction,  featured the saloon in his book, THE VIRGINIAN, and that is where the Virginian finally "got his man."

Our time in Buffalo was capped off with a pot luck dinner featuring roast turkey and the trimmings plus the usual array of wonderful side dishes.
